KUALA LUMPUR

UIA - Union Internationale des Architectes (International Union of Architects) is a federation of national professional organisations working to unify architects, influence public policies and advance architecture in service to the needs of society, founded in 1948 and based in Paris.

Kuala Lumpur as the host city for UIA International Forum 2024 will bring forward issues faced by many emerging economies and growing cities, and placing itself as a case study in achieving the balance of a diverse city and how to achieve a city for humanity and sustainable growth. Kuala Lumpur offers its rich and diverse architecture, multi-ethnicity culture and awe-gasping charm that make the city truly Asia. The city will welcome you with its vibrancy to explore the day and night of its hidden gems.

UIA2024KL International Forum theme is DIVERSECITY - an encapsulation of two words; diverse and city. Taking Kuala Lumpur as a starting point, as a multicultural Asian city through the lens of Cultural Identity, the Forum will look for an updated understanding on the notion of Cultural Identity which gained visibility and expression with the advent of modernism and the initiation of a globalised culture of architectural communication in the twentieth century.

The objectives of the UIA 2024 International Forum Kuala Lumpur is to provide opportunities for the public, architects, urban planners and policy makers to participate in a series of enriching programmes invigorating discussion on culture, heritage, sustainability, equity and ecology to achieve humanity and sustainable growth. The theme for UIA 2024 Forum is DIVERSECITY for Humanity and Sustainable Growth.

This is in panning a global collective dialogue of the forum delegates, to question, discourse and propose ideas on questions of what is the evolving architects’ role in today’s economy, environmental, social movement, thinking and awareness of architecture, design and urbanism.

The UIA2024KL Forum also intends to reflect on Cultural Identity as a deep text of architectural thought, and how it reflects into the city’s diversity and aims at finding new definitions of Cultural Identity in a period when architecture and cities are faced with new environmental, climate, social and economic challenges threatening social coherence, and trends are progressively dictated by mega business, Artificial Intelligence and new global models of business.
